The collection consists of one scrapbook compiled by Ruth Lucile Allison Jewell between circa 1926 and 1933. Items in the scrapbook include postcards, photographs, clippings, and printed items pertaining to social activities at African American colleges, particularly Kentucky State Industrial College. Included is a Christmas card made by Hale Woodruff (1900-1980) sent to the Lionel Artis family of Indianapolis.

Ruth "Lucile" Allison Jewell (1905-1996) was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Rufus and Edna Allen Allison. She was one of nine African American women graduates of Butler University (Indianapolis, Ind.) in 1927. After graduation Jewell worked at the South Carolina State Agricultural and Mechanical College (Orangeburg, S.C.) and in 1930 was appointed dean of girls at the Kentucky State Industrial College (later Kentucky State University) at Frankfort, Ky.
